(CloudResearch) Connect
An honest, data-backed account of CloudResearch Connect. A breakdown of payout data, study types, and earnings across more than 2,500 projects to see if Connect is worth your time as a side hustle.
A living guide — planning to update as long as I am. My account of it – not advice.
With Prolific steady doing its thing, I decided it was time to get myself Connected – the writing was on the wall.
This is a real account of what Connect is, what the work looks like, what it paid me across more than 2,500 projects, and how it quietly became a cornerstone of my side-hustle group. And I'm gonna do it again...
Liner Notes: Connect
What it is: Paid research studies, academic surveys, consumer panels, and jury/legal mock trials.
Where I earn: Short decision-making surveys, workplace studies, and the occasional high-paying jury research task.
Typical study: About 3.7 minutes and $0.71 (with a $0.50 median).
Approved since February: 2,235 projects, totaling $1,589.78 ($1,548.48 base + $41.30 in bonuses).
Payout: PayPal or Stripe; $5.00 minimum threshold
To join: 18+, account setup, and identity verification.
Watch out for: Low-volume weekend dry spells and long jury studies that require intense focus.
My take: The steady anchor — low rejection risk, consistent pay, and the platform that held my monthly earnings together during the summer slowdown.
What CloudResearch Connect Actually Is
If Prolific is where this side hustle grew up and Clickworker is where I grab voice analysis work, CloudResearch Connect ("Connect" or "CRC") is the steady workhorse.
Connect was built by CloudResearch (a company long known for powering research quality on Amazon Mechanical Turk). They launched Connect as a standalone platform to give academic researchers, brands, and legal teams direct access to vetted, high-quality human participants ("human-in-the-loop" is the term used in AI).
Unlike older survey sites that treat users like commodity click-monkeys, Connect enforces minimum pay standards, clear time estimates, and strict researcher behavior rules. Payouts go straight to your PayPal or bank account via Stripe once you hit the $5.00 threshold — no points, no gift cards, no fluff.
Who This Is For — And Who It Isn't
- What it's good for: People who want a reliable, fair, and low-friction platform to run alongside Prolific. The interface is clean, the studies load fast, and the rejection rate is practically zero if you pay attention.
- What it isn't good for: Instant full-time income. Just like Prolific, you don't control study supply. When researchers are active, the dashboard pops; when they're on break, it sits quiet.

Getting Started
Signup is straightforward: create an account, complete your identity verification, and fill out your demographic profile.
Just like I emphasized in my Clickworker post, two rules apply above all else: be consistent and be honest. Profile consistency is how Connect routes appropriate studies to your dashboard. Trying to game screeners is a fast track to getting your account flagged or quiet-banned.
What Studies Actually Look Like
Since mid-February 2026, I have logged 2,533 projects on Connect. Connect provides a full export of your assignment history, and running the numbers through Python gives a clear look at what the platform actually feeds you.
The average approved project takes under 4 minutes and pays around 71 cents. While it features a lot of quick hits, Connect also harbors a unique category you won't find on Prolific or Clickworker: Mock Trial & Jury Research Studies.
Here is how my approved project history breaks down across 2,235 completed tasks:
| Type | Share of My Studies | Avg Payout | Median Payout | Avg Duration | What It's Like |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| General Surveys & Questionnaires | 38.3% | $0.68 | $0.40 | 3.6 min | The default backbone. Short, varied academic topics. |
| Consumer & Marketing | 28.9% | $0.52 | $0.40 | 2.9 min | Fastest turnaround, lower payout quick hits. |
| Decision-Making & Behavioral | 11.8% | $0.69 | $0.45 | 3.6 min | Scenarios, game theory, choices, and economic logic. |
| Social, Political & Attitudes | 9.2% | $0.94 | $0.80 | 5.0 min | Opinions on current events, media, and trust. |
| Workplace & Organizations | 5.3% | $1.08 | $0.85 | 4.7 min | Management feedback, employee culture, and career topics. |
| AI-Related & Model Evaluation | 4.9% | $0.95 | $0.70 | 5.0 min | Rating chatbot responses, testing prompts, and LLM output. |
| Jury / Legal / Mock Trial | 0.4% | $4.77 | $1.55 | 19.6 min | Long-form legal scenarios paying anywhere from $5 to $20. |
The "Jury Study" Unicorns
Special mention has to go to the legal and mock trial studies. While they only make up less than 1% of total project volume, they account for the single biggest individual payouts on the platform.
Over the past eight months, I've had 26 projects pay $4.00 or more. My top two earners on Connect were a $20.00 exploratory study (55 minutes) and a $20.00 Jury Research Study (62 minutes). When these pop up on your dashboard, grab them immediately — they require reading comprehension and focus, but they pay real money for your time.
Screen-outs, Returns, and the 0.04% Rejection Rate
Out of 2,533 total projects started on Connect:
- 88.2% (2,235) were Approved and Paid.
- 9.2% (234) were Returned by me (usually due to running out of time, spotting a broken link, or realizing midway through I wasn't a fit).
- 1.6% (40) were Partial Completions or Screen-outs.
- 0.04% (1) was Rejected.
Read that last stat again: One rejection out of 2,533 tasks.
On Clickworker, you're constantly dodging survey DQ traps. On Prolific, a single researcher oversight can turn into a support dispute. Connect's quality control standards and participant rating system make rejections extraordinarily rare if you give honest effort and pay attention to attention checks.
How Connect Held Up (Until August)
Since launching on Connect in mid-February, the platform has paid me $1,589.78. Here's the month-by-month trajectory:
| Month (2026) | Approved Projects | Approved Earnings | Avg Pay / Project |
|---|---|---|---|
| February (from Feb 17) | 121 | $84.63 | $0.70 |
| March | 157 | $115.19 | $0.73 |
| April | 427 | $289.26 | $0.68 |
| May | 429 | $312.74 | $0.73 |
| June | 403 | $302.95 | $0.75 |
| July | 267 | $194.85 | $0.73 |
| August | 181 | $121.12 | $0.67 |
| September | 187 | $122.73 | $0.66 |
| October (through Oct 11) | 63 | $46.31 | $0.74 |
This is where Connect proved its worth. In June, while Prolific dried up, Connect hit $302.95, overtaking Prolific as my #1 platform for the month. Connect's heavier mix of corporate, marketing, and legal studies helped buffer the academic summer lull and kept my monthly investment contributions on track.

The Stuff Nobody Warns You About
- The Pending Approval Queue: Connect gives researchers up to 14 days to review submissions before auto-approving. While many approve within 24–48 hours, don't be surprised if a chunk of your earnings sits in "Pending" for a week or two.
- Fast-finger Notifications: Connect offers a browser extension and desktop notifications. Turn them on. High-paying studies (especially jury studies) fill up within seconds.
- Weekend Silence: Like most research platforms, activity drops sharply on Saturdays and Sundays. Don't waste your weekend staring at a blank dashboard.
- Bonus Payments exist: Researchers on Connect frequently issue performance or completion bonuses. I've collected $41.30 in bonuses across my history — small $0.50 to $2.00 add-ons that quietly bump your hourly return.
How to Work It Smart
- Keep Connect open right alongside Prolific. Running both in adjacent tabs allows you to cherry-pick the highest hourly rates without wasting time waiting for single-platform refreshes.
- Jump on Jury Studies immediately. If you see a study paying $5–$20 with a 30+ minute estimate, clear your desk and take it.
- Return bad studies without guilt. If a survey's progress bar is crawling or the formatting is broken, hand it back. Protecting your account standing and time is worth more than grinding out a broken 50-cent survey.
- Track your numbers. Keep a simple Google Sheet to log your monthly platform totals. It’s how you spot trends and know which platform deserves your focus.
Honest Pros and Cons of CloudResearch Connect
The Good:
- Clean, intuitive dashboard with transparent pay and time estimates.
- Exceptionally low rejection rates compared to standard survey platforms.
- Unique access to high-paying Mock Trial / Jury studies ($5–$20+).
- Held strong during the summer when academic platforms slowed down.
- Low $5.00 cash-out threshold directly to PayPal or bank/Stripe.
The Not So Good:
- Daily volume is generally lower than peak Prolific.
- Lower-end consumer surveys can feel repetitive (~$0.40–$0.50).
- Highly competitive for top-tier studies; requires browser alerts to grab the best ones.
The Honest Bottom Line: Connect isn't a standalone replacement for a full-time job, but it is hands-down the best companion platform to Prolific on the web. It's steady, fair, respectful of your time, and provided over $1,500 in retirement money in about eight months.

How This Post Got Made
Gemini and Claude helped me discover Connect as a platform when I was looking to diversify early in the year and ran the analysis on my full activity log (all 2,500+ projects) to figure out the categories, payouts, duration math, and screen-out numbers. The projects, the grind, the earnings, and the strategy are all mine. The data crunching and draft structuring were a team effort.
